True Colors Bookstore in Minneapolis, Minn., called "the oldest independent feminist bookstore in North America," will close at the end of February "barring a miracle," according to owner Ruta Skujins.

Skujins, who bought the business in 2008, said she has been struggling for over a year to make a profit, despite doing all she could to keep it afloat, including sponsoring book clubs and hosting author readings.

True Colors, which specializes in lesbian, GLBT, women's interest and multicultural books, opened its doors 40 years ago in a different location under the name Amazon Bookstore. The name was changed to Amazon Bookstore Cooperative following a legal dispute with Amazon.com over trademark infringement. Under the terms of the settlement, when the store was sold the Amazon name reverted to the Internet retailer.

The bookstore will be holding a 20% off sale beginning in the new year.
