Unit sales of print books rose 10% in the week ended June 21, 2015, compared to the similar week in 2014, at outlets that report to Nielsen BookScan. The gain was led by the two adult categories, which benefited from a Father’s Day bump and the release of Grey, by E.L. James. Grey sold more than 354,000 copies through outlets that report to BookScan in its first week on sale, leading a 15% sales increase in adult fiction over the similar week in 2014. Two other titles by major authors also had good debuts: Country, by Danielle Steel, sold more than 32,000 copies, and Tom Clancy Under Fire, by Grant Blackwood, sold more than 27,000. Father’s Day drove big gains in the week for The Wright Brothers, by David McCullough, and Bill O’Reilly and David Fisher’s Legends and Lies; these ran one-two in adult nonfiction, selling more than 42,000 and 24,000 copies, respectively. Juvenile nonfiction sales increased 14% in the week as another Bill O’Reilly book, Hitler’s Last Days, topped the list selling more than 22,000 copies, while Johanna Basford’s Enchanted Forest took second, selling more than 14,000. Units in juvenile fiction fell again, down 2%, with Jimmy Fallon having the best performance in the week, as the board book and hardcover editions of Your Baby’s First Word Will Be Dada reached the second and third spots, respectively, on the juvenile fiction chart.
