With the two movie tie-in editions of Me Before You each selling more than 33K print units this week (not to mention the conventional trade paperback’s 28K print units), Jojo Moyes continues to dominate the top of the bestseller list. But dig a little deeper and you’ll find some variety across the country. South Carolina–native Dorothea Benton Frank holds court in the South Atlantic region, while Dr. Seuss is pep-talking graduates on both coasts, and the tie-in to the new season of Bill O’Reilly’s Legends & Lies finds fans in the Mountain region.

Lovers Leap

Modern Lovers by Emma Straub, which debuts at #14 in Hardcover Fiction, is a “witty and warmly satisfying novel,” according to our starred review. It also represents a satisfying upward trajectory in first-week sales for the author; here’s a look.

Other People We Married 132 (2012)

The Vacationers 2,318 (2014)
Modern Lovers 4,918 (2016)

‘Before the Fall’ Springs Ahead

Noah Hawley’s fifth novel, Before the Fall, examines the aftermath of a fatal plane crash; our starred review called it “a gritty tale of a man overwhelmed by unwelcome notoriety, with a stunning, thoroughly satisfying conclusion.” The book debuts at #2 on our Hardcover Fiction list and at #10 in the country overall, selling double in its first week what his previous book, 2012’s The Good Father, has sold in hardcover and trade paper to date. One explanation for the leap: in between books, Hawley earned acclaim as the creator and primary writer of the much-lauded FX series Fargo, which among numerous other awards has garnered three Emmys and two Golden Globes.
