B&N College finds the beauty in bookselling; Amazon primes a new pickup location at University of Illinois; the world’s oldest LGBT bookstore looks for funding; and more.

Amazon Adds First Pickup Location in Illinois: When Amazon opens a 2,200 sq. ft. staffed pickup location in the Illini Union Bookstore at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign this fall, that will mark its initial location in Illinois. The pickup site is one of several already announced for 2016, including: on-campus locations at The Georgia Institute of Technology and California State University, Long Beach, and sites near the University of Connecticut and Texas Tech University.

B&N College Goes for Beauty: Barnes & Noble College Bookstores are going with a new concept, The Glossary, cosmetic, skincare, and hair care products. “We built our reputation as one of the most trusted campus retailers by continuously innovating and creating new merchandising ideas we know our students are looking for,” said Joel Friedman, v-p, Chief Merchandising Officer. The beauty sections, which were piloted at Emory University and Southern Methodist University bookstores, are now available at Tulane and the College of William & Mary. In August, the University of California at Riverside will also add The Glossary.

Glad Day Bookshop Falling Short on Fundraising: The Toronto bookstore, the first LGBT bookstore in Canada and the oldest LGBT bookstore in the world, was rescued in 2012. But sales have not covered expenses. Now the owners want to move to a larger space and are counting on funding from Indiegogo to help them reach their $200,000 goal. With two days left they are less than half way there.
