Sand Dollars

Beach-read mainstay Elin Hilderbrand writes her first murder mystery with The Perfect Couple, the #2 book in the country. She hasn’t entirely thrown out the baby with the seawater: the book opens with the discovery of a dead body in Nantucket, the author’s favorite setting, and features characters from three of her earlier titles. If first-week print unit sales are anything to go by, fans are eager to take the genre leap.

Games People Play

Video may have killed the radio star, but video games are invigorating the book business. The #4 book in the country, The Legend of Zelda Encyclopedia, collects three decades’ worth of the game’s characters, languages, artifacts, and more. A deluxe slipcased edition debuts at #10 in hardcover nonfiction; the two editions sold a combined 34K print copies.

Debuting at #1 in children’s frontlist fiction, A Hole New World is a graphic novel by Pat and Jen of PopularMMOs, inspired by their Minecraft-focused YouTube channel, which has almost 15 million subscribers.

Higher Anxiety

Sarah Wilson, whose I Quit Sugar (2014) sold 71K print copies, returns with First, We Make the Beast Beautiful, about managing chronic anxiety. It pubbed April 24 and got a boost when Carson Daly mentioned it as his current “favorite thing” on the June 4 Today show. On June 19, Daly’s interview with Wilson aired, and Today’s website published an essay by the author. The book debuts on our list at #18 in hardcover nonfiction.
