Indigo Books and Music, Canada's dominant bookstore chain, is closing all of its retail locations from the end of business today until March 27. This covers 88 superstores under the Chapters and Indigo brand names and 111 small format stores, operating as Coles, Indigospirit, and The Book Company.

“Today, we have made the difficult but appropriate decision to close all our retail locations until March 27th,” said Heather Reisman, Indigo CEO, in a press release. “As this situation continues to evolve, we believe that this temporary shut-down is an opportunity to do our part as members of team Canada to control the spread of COVID-19 and keep our employees, customers and broader community safe.”

"Indigo is committed to supporting its employees during this challenging period including full pay to those with scheduled shifts," the statement continued. "At this time, no Indigo employee has tested positive for the virus and there have been no reported cases in Indigo offices, stores or distribution centres. Indigo will continue to be proactive implementing all advice and directives from the Public Health Agency of Canada including work from home for all those who can."

Indigo.ca, the company's online bookstore, will remain open.
