Unit sales of print books rose 15.5% last week over the previous week, but were still down 6.4% from the week ended December 18, 2021, at outlets that report to NPD BookScan.

Adult fiction was the only category to post an increase over last year, with sales rising 4.0%. Colleen Hoover continued to pile up big sales: It Starts with Us was #1 in the category, with sales topping 102,000 copies, and four other books by Hoover were among the category’s top 10, including It Ends with Us, which sold more than 75,000 copies in the week and was closing in on 2.6 million copies sold this year at stores that report to BookScan. Sales of Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus continue to build, with sales over 53,000 copies sold last week, landing it in fourth place on the category list.

Adult nonfiction sales declined 11.1% in the week. The Light We Carry by Michelle Obama sold more than 117,000 copies, making it the bestselling book last week. Other top sellers in adult nonfiction were Interesting Facts for Curious Minds by Jordan Moore, which sold almost 68,000 copies, and Faith Still Moves Mountains by Harris Faulkner, which sold over 51,000 copies.

Juvenile fiction sales fell 5.2%. Jeff Kinney’s newest Diary of a Wimpy Kid book, Diper Överlöde, was #1, selling over 80,000 copies, followed by Cat Kid Comic Club: Collaborations by Dav Pilkey, which sold more than 65,000 copies. Last year, Kinney and Pilkey were also first and second in the category, with the previous books in those same series selling about 93,000 and 91,000 copies, respectively.

Sales of juvenile nonfiction dropped 8.7% last week. The Hardest Hidden Pictures Book Ever was #1, selling over 17,000 copies.
