Unit sales of print books fell 2.1% last week from the comparable week in 2022 at outlets that report to NPD BookScan. Declines in the juvenile categories and a dip in sales in adult nonfiction offset a 3.5% increase in adult fiction.

In addition to the usual strong showing by Colleen Hoover, two new releases, including one from Hoover, helped lift sales of adult books. Hoover’s Heart Bones sold more than 37,000 copies in its first week, landing it in third place on the adult bestseller list, behind It Ends with Us (about 70,000 copies sold) and It Starts with Us (about 56,000 copies sold). Final Offer by Lauren Asher sold over 25,000 copies in its first week, good enough for fifth place on the list.

Adult nonfiction sales slipped 2.8% in the week despite good showings by three new books. 8 Rule of Love by Jay Shetty was #1 in the category, selling more than 66,000 copies. In fourth place on the list was Becoming Free Indeed by Jinger Vuolo, which sold over 24,000 copies, followed by Pamela Anderson’s Love, Pamela, which sold over 18,000 copies.

Juvenile fiction sales dropped 6.8% in the week. Little Blue Truck’s Valentine by Alice Schertle and You’re My Little Cuddle Bug by Nicola Edwards were first and second, respectively, in the category, both last week and a year ago. In 2022, Blue Truck sold about 47,000 copies, and last week, it sold 39,000; Cuddle Bug sold 30,000 copies a year ago and about 27,000 copies last week.

Young adult fiction sales rose 2.6% over 2022 led by two new titles. Chain of Thorns by Cassandra Clare was #1, selling nearly 38,000 copies, followed by Holly Jackson’s As Good As Dead, which sold almost 14,000 copies.
