TikTok Boom

Lucy Score has the #2 book in the country with Things We Left Behind, her third Knockemout contemporary romance novel. She self-pubbed the first title in the series, Things We Never Got Over, in January 2022; BookTok got behind it, and Bloom Books rereleased it later that year. By the time the follow-up, Things We Hide from the Light, pubbed, Score had scored big; to date, the first two books have sold a combined 1 million print units.

Star Turns

The calendar may still say summer, but you can bet your pumpkin spice that fall is here, at least in terms of new releases. These books, debuting on our lists this week, all received starred PW reviews.

Why We Love Baseball
Joe Posnanski
#2 Hardcover Nonfiction
This is a “rousing celebration” of 50 key moments in baseball history.

Necessary Trouble
Drew Gilpin Faust
#8 Hardcover Nonfiction
Former Harvard president Gilpin delivers an “affecting memoir” of her mid-century youth.

The Fraud
Zadie Smith
#11 Hardcover Fiction

Quit Noodling Around

The titles of two new cookbooks get right to the point.

Let’s Eat!, #6 on our hardcover nonfiction list, is by Dan Pelosi, known to his 155K Instagram followers as GrossyPelosi. It’s a cheerful love letter to Italian American cuisine, liberally seasoned with Pelosi’s big personality and family memories.

Cook It Up, at #11, is another family affair, coauthored by chef and TV personality Alex Guarnaschelli and Ava Clark, her daughter. It’s a “bighearted and wide-ranging collection of their favorite family recipes,” our review said, sure to inspire “chefs of all ages.”

NEW & NOTABLE

HOLLY
Stephen King
#1 Hardcover Fiction, #1 overall
“PI Holly Gibney returns to face off against a pair of deliciously wicked predators in this lurid if somewhat plodding thriller,” according to our review. “The narrative can dawdle, with things starting to feel especially padded in the middle stretch, but readers are likely to forgive the delay by the time the stomach-turning dénouement comes around.”

LOOK OUT FOR THE LITTLE GUY!
Scott Lang
#4 Hardcover Fiction
If you’re asking “Who is Scott Lang, and why is Paul Rudd on the cover of this book?” then you’re probably not the target readership for this fictional memoir by Marvel superhero Ant-Man, played by Rudd in the movies.
