The Toronto Comics Arts Festival (TCAF) kicks off this weekend, May 10-11, at the Toronto Reference Library in Toronto, Ontario. Unlike other conventions, TCAF keeps the focus on comics and their creators, with readings, presentations, exhibitions, screenings, and more. Programming includes sessions presented by the Canadian Society for the Study of Comics such as "Identity and Subjectivity," "Visual Languages," 'Reading Superheroes," "Nostalgia for the Future"; Kids programming including author spotlights, giveaways, and interactive presentations (view full schedule here); a series of comics workshops and readings; and the presentation of the 2014 Doug Wright Awards. Join cartoonist Peter Bagge for the opening of an exhibition featuring to mark the release of Buddy Buys a Dump (Fantagraphics) on Saturday, May 10 from 6-8 p.m. at Fantagraphics Book Store & Gallery in Seattle, Washington.
