Launched with a Kickstarter campaign in early March, Clover Press, in collaboration with Reader to Reader Inc., a nonprofit literacy organization, plans to publish The Great Gatsby: The Essential Graphic Novel Adaptation by Ted Adams with drawings by artist Jorge Coelho, a full-color, hardcover graphic adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic American novel, originally published in 1925 by Charles Scribner’s Sons. In addition to his work as a comics writer, Adams is the cofounder and publisher of Clover Press, as well as a founder and former CEO of IDW publishing. The two artists have created a graphic interpretation of the prose work that is faithful to Fitzgerald’s storytelling and lavishly illustrated with the drawings and rich color work of Coelho. In this seven-page excerpt it is 1922 and the reader is introduced to the first-person voice of the novel, Nick Carraway, Yale graduate and WWI veteran, who is traveling to New York City to become a bond salesman; later to settle on Long Island near Jay Gatsby’s opulent estate. The Great Gatsby: The Essential Graphic Novel Adaptation by Ted Adams and artist Jorge Coelho will be published in June by Clover Press.
