Ezra Claytan Daniels and artist Camilla Sucre’s new graphic novel, Mama Came Callin’, is a dark contemporary mystery about a young biracial woman grappling with both a possible connection to a serial killer and a grim family secret from the south's racist past. Kirah, the young woman, believes she was attacked by her estranged father, a white man disguised as the mythical Florida serial killer Gator Man, when she was a child. However, when the father is released from prison, she’s forced to re-examine his life, and her mother’s, much more closely.
In this 12-page excerpt we’re introduced to young Kirah and her mother on the evening she was attacked by Gator Man. Mama Came Callin’ by Ezra Claytan Daniels and Camilla Sucre is out now from Morrow.
