Turner Publishing Company has acquired the publishing program of Basic Health Publications. The deal, which includes the publishing rights, inventory and related assets to about 280 titles, closed December 31.

Todd Bottorff, president and publisher of Turner, said his company will retain the Basic Health name as an imprint and will continue to publish new titles under the imprint. The deal included 20 titles that have not yet been published.

Basic Health was founded in 2001 by Norman Goldfind. The company publishes titles about the environment and a wide range of health issues including alternative medicine, disease state management, nutrition and diet, vitamins, minerals, nutritional supplements, and exercise/fitness. Among its bestselling books are Earthing by Clinton Ober and The Vitamin Cure series.

With the Basic Health purchase, Turner now has over 3,500 titles in both fiction and nonfiction. The purchase, Bottorff said, “will continue to strengthen Turner’s position as a consumer publisher.”
