Jewish educational publisher Behrman House has announced that longtime owners David Behrman and Vicki Weber will retire in early 2026, with industry veteran Derek Stordahl set to acquire the company.
Stordahl was previously general manager at the children’s publishers Holiday House and Peachtree. Prior to that, he held leadership positions at McGraw-Hill and Bloomsbury.
Behrman House currently has more than 800 titles in print, publishing both K-12 titles as well as adult trade books on Jewish thought and learning. Its authors include David Adler, Barbara Diamond Goldin, Eric Kimmel, and Ruth “Dr. Ruth” Westheimer. The publisher has been in the Behrman family for three generations, according to the announcement. In 2015, it cofounded Apples & Honey Press and in 2017 became the imprint’s sole owner.
“As I go forward with the dedicated and talented team at Behrman House, I’m committed to serving the needs of the Jewish community as Behrman House has done for more than 100 years,” said Stordahl in a statement. “At the same time, this is an opportunity for the House to explore new markets and go from strength to strength in expanding our publishing reach.”
