The Gernert Company has teamed up with the Los Angeles–based Bookcase Literary Agency to offer representation to authors of women’s commercial fiction, focusing on romance and romantasy.

Bookcase, founded by Brazilian agent Flavia Viotti, is a leading agency in the romance space, home to such authors as Meghan Quinn, Lucy Score, and Anna Todd. It will play “a central role” in the new partnership both domestically and internationally, according to the announcement.

Under the agreement, Gernet’s Joy Fowlkes will work closely with Viotti in the domestic market to build a new romance client list. Internationally, Bookcase will serve as the exclusive foreign rights partner for all romance titles that come from this collaboration, with translation rights led by Meire Dias, director of foreign rights at Bookcase.

The two agencies see the collaboration as a way to provide new opportunities for both self-published and first-time writers in the romance and women's commercial space to find literary representation.

"Romance is one of the most powerful and globally resonant categories in publishing," said Viotti in a statement. "Together with The Gernert Company, we can offer romance authors something rare: a team that truly understands both the creative ambition and the business sophistication this category demands."

Gernert Company founder David Gernert is also hopeful about reaching new romance authors. "Today’s romance authors are entrepreneurial, global, and deeply and often directly connected to their readers. By partnering with Bookcase, we’re combining institutional reach with category-specific insight in a way that meaningfully serves this new generation of writers," he said in a statement.
