The CJK Group has acquired the assets of Quad/Graphics’ Versailles, Ky., book manufacturing facility. Quad announced last fall that it was looking to sell its book printing business.

Under the agreement, CJK Group acquired the equipment and assumes the customer contracts at the facility. The new entity will operate under the name Sheridan Kentucky and will become part of the Sheridan division of the CJK Group. Quad had closed its book operations at the beginning of the coronavirus outbreak but the facilities are now up and running.

According to the CJK Group, the 1,000,000 sq. ft. plant specializes in the production of softcover and hardcover books as well as a variety of other publication types for the education, trade, and scientific/technical markets.

“The capabilities of the Versailles, Kentucky plant will increase the capacity of CJK Group’s book production platform exactly at a time when publishers are seeking strong, stable suppliers who have a long term commitment to this market,” said, Chris Kurtzman, CEO of CJK Group in a statement. “Sheridan brings to this customer base the ability to provide new, integrated digital solutions, along with additional print and post-print capabilities. We are pleased to welcome the former Quad employees into the CJK Group family.”
