Rob Prichard has been named chairman of Penguin Canada. Prichard was chair of the law firm Torys LLP (which has offices in Toronto and New York) and, before that, president and CEO of Metrolinx. Prichard also served as president and CEO of the Canadian media company Torstar (parent company of Harlequin).
Speaking to the appointment, John Makinson, chairman and CEO of Penguin Group, said that Prichard is "well-known and universally respected throughout Canada." Prichard also has some experience with publishing, having served on the board of McClelland & Stewart. Makinson noted this, saying that "he knows our industry well."
In his role, Prichard will oversee the Penguin Canada Board of Directors, which includes Makinson, Allan Reynolds (CEO of Pearson Canada, and David Shanks (CEO of Penguin Group USA).
