Geoff Shandler has been named v-p and editorial director at Little, Brown, stepping into a newly created position in which he will be tasked with expanding the Hachette division's nonfiction program. Shandler, whose promotion was announced in a letter from LB publisher Michael Pietsch, will be working, Pietsch said, in "new directions, involving both print and digital, existing categories and new ones, innovative business partnerships and increased academic outreach." Shandler's current authors include Malcolm Gladwell, Tom Shales and Justice John Paul Stevens.

Along with Shandler's promotion, Judy Clain has been bumped up to v-p and editor in chief of LB. Clain has been at the division since 1998 and her books include, among others, Julie Powell's bestseller Julie and Julia and Emma Donoghue's hit, Room. With the move, all of LB's editors--save Shandler and Reagan Arthur (who will continue to report to Pietsch)--will report in to Clain, who will also be the chair of the LB's editorial board and the division's "primary ambassador to agents."
