W.W. Norton has created a new position of v-p, trade sales and marketing and appointed senior editor Brendan Curry to the post.

In the new role, Curry will oversee Norton’s trade sales, marketing, and publicity departments. The heads of the three departments --Bill Rusin, sales; Meredith McGinnis, marketing; Louise Brockett, publicity--will report to Curry. Norton president Drake McFeely has charged Curry with helping to coordinate a “synchronized strategy” for the three units in promoting Norton’s trade list.

Curry has been at Norton since 2001 when he joined the sales division in the publisher’s college department. He was named a senior editor in 2010 and has edited a number bestselling books including The Shallows by Nicholas Carr, The Second Machine Age by Erik Brynjolfsson and Andrew McAfee, and Breakout Nations by Ruchir Sharma. In his new position, he will continue to acquire and edit select works in the areas of technology, economics, and current affairs, Norton said.
