Penguin Merges Berkley, NAL

The Penguin Publishing Group has combined Berkley and New American Library—the two groups that house Penguin’s mass market paperback imprints—into a single group called the Berkley Publishing Group. Among other things, the merger will result in the elimination of an unspecified number of positions. Leslie Gelbman, who headed up Berkley, has been named president.

Scribd, the subscription e-book service, has acquired Librify, a subscription e-book and social reading platform launched in 2014 that also offers e-book retailing.
