In fall 2001, we reported on Oprah Winfrey’s unusual decision to rescind her invitation to Jonathan Franzen to appear on her TV show after his novel The Corrections was named an Oprah’s Book Club pick. Winfrey’s announcement came after Franzen expressed concerns about having the book club’s “O” appear on the novel’s cover.
