In a welcome-back-to-the-office note, Penguin Random House global CEO Nihar Malaviya laid out three areas of focus for 2024 in terms of supporting employees.

“After discussions with employees across the company and thoroughly reviewing the results, our Penguin Random House Global Executive Committee decided on three action areas to focus our efforts over the next two years,” Malaviya wrote. Those areas, quoted from Malaviya's memo, are as follows:

  • Psychological Safety—Emphasis on Feedback Culture: Continue to work on creating an inclusive and psychologically safe environment for employees at every level, one that fosters the free exchange of feedback, ideas, and opinions.
  • Company Strategy: Create greater clarity about the global strategy by increasing the frequency of both local and global strategy communications.
  • Professional Development: Continue momentum in professional development areas by increasing awareness of and transparency around growth and development opportunities, empowering employees, and building a greater learning culture.

The note followed Malaviya’s year-end message to employees in December in which he said company sales in the year were up over 2022. His new note echoed that theme, noting that while final results are not yet in, “most of our businesses around the world had a stronger 2023 compared to 2022. PRH’s financial performance, overall strategy, key priorities, and books will be the focus of the company’s live Global Town Hall on February 27.
