Citing the growing important role technology plays in book publishing—from connecting books with readers to powering the supply chain—Penguin Random House has created a global technology organization (GTO).

PRH global CEO Nihar Malaviya announced the formation of the new unit in a memo to employees late last week. The decision, Malaviya wrote, “reflects our ongoing commitment to investing in the tools, platforms, and capabilities that help us thrive creatively and operationally.”

As part of the new structure, Malaviya has formed a global technology steering committee and appointed three global technology heads to drive PRH’s global technology strategy and oversee key areas.

Andreas Arnold will serve as CIO UK and Global Enterprise Resource Planning Transformation, bringing together PRH’s core business systems across markets.

Carlos Ciria will serve as CIO Spain, Portugal, and Latin America and Global IT Supply Chain Transformation. He "will focus on the interface between technology and supply chain, at a time when we are making significant investments in our distribution networks,” Malaviya wrote.

And Chris Hart will serve as CIO North America and Global Application Transformation, in charge of “enhancing how we do application development using AI,” Malaviya wrote, adding that Hart “will focus on using automation to streamline and evolve processes globally, driving efficiency and value across the business.”

All three men are PRH veterans and in the coming months, Malaviya promised, they “will share more about the next phases of this vision, including details about what these changes will mean in practice.”

Malaviya also announced he has appointed different global heads to oversee the publisher’s infrastructure, data, and IT security areas.
