Stasi Eldredge’s New Title Goes to Nelson

Nelson acquiring editor Brian Hampton has signed world rights for New York Times bestselling author Stasi Eldredge’s new title, Defiant Joy: Taking Hold of Hope, Beauty, and Life in a Hurting World. Eldredge was represented by Curtis Yates of Yates & Yates. In Defiant Joy, Eldredge, tells readers how to find God’s presence amid their own pain and troubles. The book is set for an October 16 release.

HarperOne Nabs New Look at Ancient Rituals

HarperOne assistant editor Anna Paustenbach acquired English language world rights for Remaking Religion: Transforming Ancient Rituals for a Modern Meaningful Life by Casper ter Kuile. The author is the co-founder of the Harry Potter and the Sacred Text podcast and is a Ministry Innovation Fellow at Harvard Divinity School. Ter Kuile, represented by Lisa DiMona at Writers House, argues that secular spaces increasingly serve the needs that churches once did. A winter 2020 release is planned.

Beaming on Friendship

Beaming Books director of product development Andrew DeYoung has signed world rights for Stay Through the Storm by Joanna Rowland (The Memory Box: A Book about Grief) The book, a tribute to two girls’ friendship in difficult times, releases in May 2019. No agent was involved.

Trio of Titles for Tots at Kar-Ben

Kar-Ben publisher Joni Sussman has announced the signing of three Jewish children’s books, all of which will be released in 2020. One new title is by Caldecott winning author Jane Yolen. Kar-ben has world rights for Miriam at the River, Yolen’s retelling of Miriam, who saved her baby brother Moses by setting him in the bullrushes by the river. Elizabeth Harding of Curtis Brown, Ltd. represented Yolen. No illustrator has been assigned yet.

The company also acquired world English rights for Debora Busheri’s tale of a big sister watching her baby sibling, My Sister is Sleeping, illustrated by Michel Kichka, from Reuvat Nitzan at Israal's Adam Books. Sussman signed world rights (except in Hebrew) for a second Busheri book, The Abba Tree, from Israel Mizrahi at Mizrahi Publishing, based in Kefar Netter, Israel. It’s themed for the Jewish holiday of tree-planting, Tu B’Shevat, and illustrated by Gal Shkedi.
