Former NFL Star Talks Race

Senior acquisitions editor Jon Farrar at Tyndale Momentum took world rights from Alex Field at The Bindery to an untitled book by former NFL player and pastor Dr. Derwin L. Gray (The Good Life). The new book will address what the Bible says about healing racial divides, and it’s tentatively scheduled for publication in May 2022.

Smith Reups at Chalice

Brad Lyons, president and publisher of Chalice, acquired exclusive world English rights for Traci Smith’s Faithful Families for Lent, Easter, and Resurrection: Simple Way to Create Meaning for the Season, to be published in fall 2021. Smith, who was unagented, is also author of Chalice’s Faithful Families: Creating Sacred Moments at Home (2017) and Faithful Families for Advent and Christmas (2020).

Three Deals for Broadleaf

In a world rights deal negotiated by the author, Broadleaf’s Lisa Kloskin bought The God Who Riots (tentative title) by YouTube personality Damon Garcia. Slated for publication in 2022, the debut book is a manifesto for ex-evangelicals, progressive Christians, and those who have left religion altogether, but still feel God’s spirit, according to the publisher. In the work, Garcia will explore how God is present wherever people struggle for liberation, justice, and autonomy.

Lisa Kloskin also acquired a follow-up to Jessica Kantrowitz’s first book, The Long Night (Fortress, 2020). The new book, tentatively titled Blessings for the Long Night, will feature more than 100 poems, meditations, and blessings by Kantrowitz for those struggling with depression. The author represented herself in the world rights deal, and the book is slated for publication in spring 2022.

Hannah Bowman at Liza Dawson Associates sold world rights to Kloskin to They/Them by Dianna E. Anderson (Problematic). The book, planned for fall 2022, examines the emergence and history of non-binary gender.

Revell Doubles Up

Social media influencer Rachel Kang has signed a two-book deal with Revell’s acquisitions editor Kelsey Bowen. The first untitled book, scheduled for a fall 2022 release, focuses on the calling of creativity in women. World rights were negotiated by Kang. The second book is tentatively scheduled for spring 2024.

Beaming Lands the ‘Mother’ Lode

Naomi Krueger at Beaming Books has acquired Mother God, a debut picture book written by Teresa Kim Pecinovsky that explores maternal and feminine imagery for God. Illustrating is Khao Le. Publication is set for March 2022. The author represented herself in the world rights deal, while Kate Kendrick from Astound represented the illustrator.
