Six-year-old British publishing house Quercus Publishing has entered into a three-year deal with Sterling Publishing to publish fiction in the U.S. and Canada via a new imprint called Silver Oak. The imprint will be owned 50/50 by Quercus and Sterling and will release titles in the U.S. that are already on Quercus’s list.

Silver Oak will launch in January 2011 with the publication of Three Seconds by Swedish authors Anders Roslund and Borge Hellström, which was a bestseller in Sweden and was recently named Swedish Crime Novel of the Year. Quercus is releasing the title in the U.K. later this month.

Sterling will market Silver Oak titles throughout North America. Quercus founder and CEO Mark Smith said the partnership “will give us access to the world’s largest fiction market through Sterling’s substantial marketing and promotional resources.” He said he expects Silver Oak “to become a material contributor to Quercus’s financial success, bringing benefits both to our authors and to our shareholders. It is a very significant development.”
