Appearing on all three November lists highlighted this week is Jesus of Nazareth: The Infancy Narratives by Pope Benedict XVI. The book is the third and final title in the pope’s Jesus of Nazareth trilogy and details how the stories of Jesus’s infancy and childhood are still relevant today. Jesus of Nazareth was #1 in nonfiction in Germany and Spain and #3 on Italy’s combined list. In the U.S., the book has sold over 21,000 copies in the two weeks since it was published by Doubleday’s Image imprint at outlets that report to Nielsen BookScan.
Landing at #2 on Spain’s nonfiction list is Rhonda Byrne’s sensation The Magic, which was published by Atria in March 2012. The Magic is a follow-up to The Secret, which has sold more than 4.5 million copies in print, and another 700,000 as an audiobook. To date, The Magic has sold 151,000 copies at BookScan outlets in the U.S.
The #1 fiction title in Spain, topping E.L. James, is The Tango of the Old Guard by Arturo Pérez-Reverte, the latest from the bestselling literary suspense author. Pérez-Reverte has had a number of successful books released stateside, including The Club Dumas (Harvest Books), which has sold more than 140,000 copies, as well as Queen of the South and The Flanders Panel.
Debuting at #6 on the bestseller list in Italy, Margaret Mazzantini’s Twice Born continues the author’s international success. Twice Born takes place in war-torn Sarajevo and was published in 2011 by Viking. Anchor published Mazzantini’s Don’t Move in 2005.
