City of Constant Violence: PW Talks with David Simon

Hot on the heels of PW’s U.S. Book Show, where a full day of comics and graphic novels programming included appearances by New Yorker cartoonist Roz Chast, Public Enemy’s Chuck D, and Eisner Award winner Tillie Walden, we’re back with our second standalone comics announcements issue.

Once again, it’s a jam-packed roundup of buzzworthy titles. You’ll find top 10 and longlist picks for fall in the adult, middle grade, young adult, and manga categories, as well as can’t-miss selections for early readers. There’s also a profile of Daniel Clowes, whose graphic novel Monica draws on his troubled relationship with his mother, and a q&a with David Simon about his graphic adaptation with cartoonist Philippe Squarzoni of Homicide: A Year on the Killing Streets.

Be sure to also check out our cover, which features portraits of comics powerhouses Jillian and Mariko Tamaki, whose latest collaboration, Roaming, drops in September. Turn the page to find out what other goodies the season has in store.

Happy reading!
