A fall preview in time for Memorial Day? We like to be ahead of the game here at PW, but that must be some kind of mistake, right?
This is indeed our fall 2023 adult announcements issue, and we moved it up a few weeks for a great reason: the third annual U.S. Book Show, which ran from May 22 to May 25. There, alongside industry programming and keynote author appearances at NYU’s Kimmel Center, our editors unveiled their top picks for the season during livestreamed panels. Hopefully you tuned it, but if not, don’t fret—the editors’ picks panels are archived at usbookshow.com and available on-demand through June 30. You’ll also find those selections—and many, many more—starting on the very next page.
Sped-up timeline aside, the process behind the picks remained the same. In March, we invited publishers to submit information on titles publishing between Aug. 1, 2023, and Jan. 31, 2024. PW’s editors then pared the thousands of submissions down to our selections for the notable books of fall and winter in 13 categories. Each category has a top-10 list and a longlist of titles we think are worthy of your attention. (There’s also a complete database you can dive into at publishersweekly.com/announcements.)
