Past Aways: Facedown in the Timestream

Matt Kindt and Scott Kolins. Dark Horse, $19.99 trade paper (256p) ISBN 978-1-61655-792-8

Kindt (Ninjak) and Kolins (The Flash) spin a wild tale of time travelers from the future who are stranded in our present. Herbert, the team’s documentarian, narrates the story and provides periodic “Herbert Travelogues” detailing his humorous attempts to partake of 21st-century culture. Seemingly preserved from death by the time paradoxes, the team is faced with anomalies leaking through the “time tear” and must find a way home. The team members don’t always work well together, and one of them has a murderous agenda. Kindt doesn’t miss the chance to include the requisite time travel philosophical conundrums while still providing a strong combination of action and fun. The whole thing has a bit of a retro feel, particularly in Kolins’s art, which is sometimes reminiscent of John Romita Jr. (Aug.)
