Tom Doherty Associates, a division of Macmillan, has been rebranded as Tor Publishing Group, effective immediately.

TDA was launched in 1980 by Tom Doherty to publish science fiction and fantasy books under the Tor Books imprint. The company became a leading publisher of of science fiction and fantasy books and added imprints to publish in different genres. Today, Tor Publishing Group comprises its eponymous imprint; Forge, which publishes thrillers, mysteries, and general fiction and nonfiction; Nightfire, which publishes horror; Tor Teen and Starscape, which publish YA and children's titles; and Tordotcom, which publishes novella and novel-length works of original science fiction.

"Although the Tor name has always been associated with science fiction and fantasy, our list has included titles beyond that genre since our inception," Tor president and publisher Devi Pillai said in a statement. "With this name change and continued growth, the Tor name will now stand for quality in various types of genre publishing, with each imprint representing a distinct voice.”

Pillai has been with Tor since 2016 and succeeded previous president and publisher Fritz Foy in April 2021. Foy had occupied the role since March 2018, when Tom Doherty stepped down from the helm of the company.
