Even Vampires Get the Blues

Sandra Hill. Avon, $7.99 mass market (384p) ISBN 978-0-06-235652-9

After a brief vacation in the Florida Keys, Hill returns to familiar San Diego stomping grounds for her action-packed sixth Deadly Angels paranormal contemporary (after Vampire in Paradise). Middle Eastern extremists, unduly influenced by evil Lucipires, kidnap several women. Ancient Vangel (Viking vampire angel) and modern-day computer whiz Harek Sigurdsson joins a Navy SEAL mission to rescue them. He welcomes the time in the sun, as he usually hangs out in Siberia, cooling his heels in penance for committing the sin of greed. Harek isn’t too impressed with soldier Camille Dumaine, a member of the fictional Navy WEALS (Women on Earth, Air, Land and Sea), until he realizes that she’s been concealing both her beauty and her warm heart. Balancing the seriousness of the mission, Camille and Harek become better acquainted at her brother’s wedding in New Orleans, which allows for a visit with his brother, Ivak, and other familiar faces. Hill’s Deadly Angels series can always be counted on for humor, brisk pacing, and steamy encounters. (Sept.)
