I Will Rejoice

Psalm 18 and its joyful refrain "This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it," is the peaceful focus of a child's thoughts throughout her busy day in this reassuring picture book. Whether she's getting dressed, having a tea party with a playmate and their teddy bears or greeting her father as he returns home from work, the young narrator takes the time to recognize and appreciate God's gifts present in her life. Though it may be idealistic to think that young children have such a big concept always in their consciousness, Wilson's (Bear Snores On ) text, akin to a checklist of blessings, will help remind readers of all they possess. In her loose pencil-and-watercolor illustrations, Bates (Pumpkin Cat ) places the action in comforting, contemporary, universal situations that many children will recognize.
