Lisa Kay Wolfson, who published two novels under the pseudonym, L.K. Madigan, died Wednesday in Portland, Ore. She was 47. Wolfson’s first novel, Flash Burnout (Houghton Mifflin, 2009) won the 2010 William C. Morris Debut Award, a prize given by the ALA for the best YA book by a first-time author, and she was chosen as a Flying Start author by Publishers Weekly in fall 2009. Her second novel, The Mermaid’s Mirror, was published by Houghton last October. Wolfson, who had survived a scare with breast cancer 20 years ago, announced on her blog in January that she had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. She is survived by her husband and teenage son.
