Bestselling author Sarah J. Maas set out on a four-city book tour in late October, in celebration of the release of Kingdom of Ash, the final book in her YA fantasy series, Throne of Glass. The book landed at the top slot on the New York Times bestsellers list for the first time (previously, its highest ranking on that list was #2).

The tour kicked off at Symphony Space in New York on October 23, and wrapped up at the Pasadena Playhouse in Los Angeles on October 29. In total, more than 3,500 fans gathered for the events, which each featured two photo booths with props, temporary tattoos, stations to sign Sarah’s copy of Kingdom of Ash and write her a letter, and a fan art gallery. Each ticket holder received a signed copy of the book, a tote bag, a button, and a print of the main character, Aelin, illustrated by Charlie Bowater. Fifty VIP fans at each event (who paid $25 more for their ticket as a donation to First Book) had the opportunity to take a photo with Maas after the event. We’ve gathered a selection of highlights from the events.

The crowd in Houston was in for a surprise, when Maas invited one audience member on stage to propose to his girlfriend.
