This month, Newbery Medalist Erin Entrada Kelly embarked on an eight-city tour to celebrate the launch of her fantasy debut, Lalani of the Distant Sea (Greenwillow), a middle grade adventure inspired by Filipino folklore. Kelly visited bookstores, schools, and libraries across the U.S., as well as the International Literature Festival in Berlin. Next up for Kelly are two conferences in October; she will conclude her tour by delivering the children’s keynote at the Boston Book Festival on October 20. We’ve gathered a selection of highlights from her appearances.

During her launch event, Kelly reads from her novel at Barnes & Noble in Christiana, Del.

In a performance hosted by Big Blue Marble Bookstore, Kelly speaks to an audience of varying ages at Philadelphia’s Mt. Airy Village Fair.

Third, fourth, and fifth graders at Belmont Day School in Boston.

Kelly sits down for an interview with HEC-TV, St. Louis’s arts and education programming channel.

Post-presentation, Kelly signs a stack of her novels for a fan at the St. Louis Public Library. Books were available for sale thanks to The Novel Neighbor, a local independent bookstore.
