Disney Publishing Worldwide and Lucasfilm are launching a 20-book publishing program called Journey to Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The series will debut in 36 countries this fall, ahead of the December 18 release of Episode VII of the Star Wars saga.

The books are not tie-ins to the upcoming film; they focus on characters and events from the original movie, told in a new way. But they will incorporate subtle hints about what’s ahead, the company says. Formats will cross all ages, from comic books, to middle grade and young adult novels, illustrated reference books, Look and Find titles, and sticker books, and will include e-books and apps as well as print.

Among the titles from DPW’s Disney-Lucasfilm Press imprint will be young adult novels. Authored by Cecil Castellucci, Greg Rucka, Jason Fry, and Claudia Gray, they will center on the characters Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Princess Leia. Several DPW licensees are also involved in the program. They are Del Rey, DK, Disney-owned Marvel Comics, Studio Fun International, Egmont UK, Phoenix International Publications, and Topps.
