Grand Canyon by Jason Chin. Roaring Brook/Porter, $19.99; ISBN 978-1-59643-950-4. Chin (Island: A Story of the Galapagos) packs the geologic history of the Grand Canyon into a picture book about a magical father-daughter hike. The book earned a starred review from PW.

Saturdays at Sea by Jessica Day George. Bloomsbury, $16.99; ISBN 978-1-61963-957-7. The latest volume in the middle grade fantasy Tuesdays at the Castle series follows the sea-voyaging adventures of Celie and her family.

Sci-Fi Junior High by John Martin and Scott Seegert. LB/Patterson, $13.99; ISBN 978-0-316-31516-6. This middle grade science fiction series tells the story of Kelvin Klosmo: the son of two brilliant scientists, Kelvin is now the principal of his new school. The book features spot illustrations and comic sequences.

Optimists Die First by Susin Nielsen. Wendy Lamb, $17.99; ISBN 978-0-553-49690-1. In this YA novel, the accidental death of Petula de Wilde’s younger sister, Maxine, has fractured her family, perhaps irrevocably. The book earned a starred review from PW.

The Education of Margot Sanchez by Liliam Rivera. Simon & Schuster, $17.99; ISBN 978-1-4814-7211-1. This YA novel follows teen Margot Sanchez, “the great brown hope” of her family, who is caught between the wealthy, white world of Somerset Prep, the private school she attends, and that of her “Rich Adjacent” Latino family, which owns two supermarkets in the Bronx.

Antoinette by Kelly DiPucchio, illus. by Christian Robinson. Atheneum, $17.99; ISBN 978-1-4814-5783-5. In this follow-up to picture book Gaston, the bulldog’s poodle counterpart, Antoinette, wonders what she has to offer compared to other dogs. The book earned a starred review from PW.

Hilo Book 3: The Great Big Boom by Judd Winick. Random House, $13.99; ISBN 978-0-385-38620-3. This is the third volume in the middle grade science fiction graphic novel series about an extra-terrestrial boy and his friends.
