The winners of the 2017 Children’s and Teen Choice Book Awards were announced on May 31 at BookExpo in New York City, in a ceremony hosted by Gene Luen Yang, the National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature. Launched in 2008 by the Children’s Book Council and Every Child a Reader, the Children’s Choice Book Awards are the only national book awards program where the winning titles are selected by children and teens.

The winners are:

Kindergarten-2nd Grade Book of the Year

Madeline Finn and the Library Dog by Lisa Papp (Peachtree)

3rd-4th Grade Book of the Year

Once Upon an Elephant by Linda Stanek, illus. by Shennen Bersani (Arbordale)

5th-6th Grade Book of the Year

Locker Hero (The Misadventures of Max Crumbly #1) by Rachel Renée Russell, with Nikki and Erin Russell (Simon & Schuster/Aladdin)

Teen Book of the Year

Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo (Henry Holt)
