Tiny Little Rocket by Richard Collingridge. Scholastic/Fickling, $17.99; ISBN 978-1-338-18949-0. On a bright green hill outside of a town, an astronaut climbs aboard a tiny rocket. The picture book earned a starred review from PW.

Fiona the Hippo by Richard Cowdrey. Zonderkidz, $17.99; ISBN 978-0-310-76639-1. Cowdrey (Bad Dog, Marley!) takes an anthropomorphic approach to social media star Fiona’s story by introducing a cast of talking zoo animals eager to meet her.

Take a Hike, Miles and Spike! by Travis Foster and Ethan Long. Chronicle, $16.99; ISBN 978-1-45216471-7. In this humorous picture book, two dog friends on a hike plunder the forest for their picnic.

Making Friends by Kristen Gudsnuk. Graphix, $24.99; ISBN 978-1-338-13921-1. In this middle grade graphic novel, Dany’s first shock comes while drawing idly in a sketchbook that she’s inherited: her drawing of Prince Neptune, a favorite anime character, springs to life from the page.

Something Smells! by Blake Liliane Hellman, illus. by Steven Henry. Atheneum/Dlouhy, $17.99; ISBN 978-1-4814-8864-8. In this picture book, a boy explores his world to find the source of a smell.

The Other Side of Lost by Jessi Kirby. HarperTeen, $17.99; ISBN 978-0-06-242424-2. In this YA novel, a social media celebrity living a fake life decides to hike the 200-mile entirety of the John Muir Trail in the Sierra Nevadas.

The Epic Origin of Super Potato: Book 1 by Artur Laperla. Graphic Universe, $8.99; ISBN 978-1-5124-4021-8. In the U.S. debut of this illustrated middle grade series, a superhero is transformed into a potato but retains his superpowers.

Giant Days by Non Pratt. Amulet, $18.99; ISBN 978-1-4197-3126-6. This YA novel follows the unlikely friendship of three girls in their first year at Sheffield University: slightly misanthropic Susan, a former amateur private investigator; sweet and unassuming Daisy, whose years of homeschooling render her more naive than her peers; and Esther, a music-loving goth.

Smiley’s Dream Book: From the Creator of Bone by Jeff Smith. Graphix, $17.99; ISBN 978-0-545-67477-5. Smiley, one of the three cousins from Smith’s comic saga Bone, rescues a colorful flock of birds in this picture book.

I’ll Root for You by Edward van de Vendel, illus. by Wolf Erlbruch. Eerdmans, $17; ISBN 978-0-8028-5501-5. This picture book collection of 17 poems by van de Vendel riffs on different sports.

Luna and the Moon Rabbit by Camille Whitcher. Scribblers, $16.95; ISBN 978-1-9122-3325-0. Inspired by Asian folklore, this atmospheric story follows a girl and her discovery of the rabbit who lives in the moon.

Elizabeth Warren: Nevertheless, She Persisted by Susan Wood, illus. by Sarah Green. Abrams, $18.99; ISBN 978-1-4197-3162-4. In this picture book biography of the senior Massachusetts senator, Wood offers a cogent perspective on Warren’s life.
