Following their tumble from Reese’s backpack, Huggie, a stuffed rabbit who is worn and curmudgeonly, and Stick, an optimistic branch, embark on an adventure that spans all seven continents.

Lizzy and the Good Luck Girl by Susan Lubner. Running Press Kids, $16.99; ISBN 978-0-7624-6502-6. Protagonist Lizzy’s struggles to adjust when events don’t go according to plan are easily relatable, in this middle grade coming-of-age journey that celebrates embracing the messiness of real life.

She Did It!: 21 Women Who Changed the Way We Think by Emily Arnold McCully. Disney-Hyperion, $21.99; ISBN 978-136801991-0. In a historically detailed volume, Caldecott Medalist McCully profiles 21 women of influence for middle grade readers.

Archenemies by Marissa Meyer. Feiwel and Friends, $19.99; ISBN 978-1-250-07830-8. This sequel to the YA novel Renegades finds Nova, a superpowered “prodigy,” embedded as a double agent among the Renegades (a powerful band of superheroes), covertly working toward destroying them and reviving the defeated Anarchists (a team of villains).

Girls of Paper and Fire by Natasha Ngan. Little, Brown/Patterson, $18.99; ISBN 978-0-316-56136-5. In this rich fantasy from Ngan (The Memory Keepers), the citizens of Ikhara comprise three castes: the oppressed, fully human “Paper” class; “Steel,” a human-animal mash-up; and the reigning “Moon” caste, made up of anthropomorphic animals called demons.

Inkling by Kenneth Oppel, illus. by Sydney Smith. Knopf, $17.99; ISBN 978-1-5247-7281-9. With none but Rickman the cat awake to see it, a blob of ink wrenches itself free from a sketchbook and begins munching its way through a nearby math textbook, “slurp[ing] the ink into itself” and leaving a blank, shiny page in its wake.

The Prophet Calls by Melanie Sumrow. Yellow Jacket, $16.99; ISBN 978-1-4998-0755-4. In this middle grade novel, a 13-year-old growing up inside the protective walls of Watchful—a polygamous Mormon offshoot community set in New Mexico’s foothills—defies her community to make music.

Limitless: 24 Remarkable American Women of Vision, Grit, and Guts by Leah Tinari. Aladdin, $19.99; ISBN 978-1-5344-1855-4. Tinari offers biographical information and descriptions for a collection of portraits of 24 influential women.
