Here we round up new and forthcoming children’s titles including one story from two sisters’ perspectives, a magic-infused middle grade novel, and a new perspective on “Cinderella.”

She’s the Liar by Alison Cherry. Scholastic Press, $17.99; ISBN 978-1-338-30614-9. Two sisters at a boarding school coping with insecurities in dramatically different ways share the role of narrator in this incisive middle grade novel by Cherry (Willows vs. Wolverines).

A Box of Bones by Marina Cohen, illus. by Yana Bogatch. Roaring Brook, $16.99; ISBN 978-1-250-17221-1. In this magic-laden story of family secrets and emotional growth, 12-year-old Kallie gets some help processing her grief over her mother from a mysterious figure.

Stepsister by Jennifer Donnelly. Scholastic Press, $17.99; ISBN 978-1-338-26846-1. “Cinderella” has seen many variations, but few detail what happens beyond the royal marriage, and even fewer cast a light on Cinderella’s family. Printz Award winner Donnelly (A Northern Light) does both in this feminist rendition that follows “ugly” stepsister Isabelle.

This Is MY Room!: (No Tigers Allowed) by Jennifer Richard Jacobson, illus. by Alexandria Neonakis. Simon & Schuster, $17.99; ISBN 978-1-5344-0211-9. JoJo decides to sleep in her own bedroom instead of with her older sister, Margaret (“You’ll be back,” Margaret tells her), until a large cat tries to join her.

What Kind of Car Does a T. Rex Drive? by Mark Lee, illus. by Brian Biggs. Putnam, $17.99; ISBN 978-1-5247-4123-5. Business is so slow at Uncle Otto’s used car lot that he declares, “I will sell a car to anyone—or anything—that shows up!” Then dinosaurs descend on the lot, looking for bargains.

Batting Order by Mike Lupica. Simon & Schuster, $17.99; ISBN 978-1-5344-2155-4. Bestselling author Lupica steps up to the plate with another middle grade feel-good sports story.
