Henry Holt Books for Young Readers has announced the forthcoming publication of The Siren, the new YA dark academia by Children of Blood and Bone author Tomi Adeyemi.

The standalone novel centers around Emery, a freshman at Dartmouth who is determined to start anew and keep her troubled past concealed. At school, Emery encounters Roux and her exclusive coven of beautiful and successful friends that call themselves the Sirens. The women now known as Sirens were once at the bottom of the school’s food chain and are now the untouchables everyone wishes they could be. Emery’s plans of staying in the shadows begin to unravel when Roux offers her an invitation to join the group—even if the cost of entry might be her life.

Tomi Adeyemi catapulted into literary success at age 18 with the 2018 release of her debut fantasy novel, Children of Blood and Bone, first in her Legacy of Orisha trilogy. The novel earned recognition from the publishing industry (winning both the 2019 William C. Morris Debut YA Award and the 2019 Waterstones Book Prize, as well as being named a PW Flying Start) along with a large fanbase that kept the novel on the New York Times bestseller list for more than 120 weeks. The series concluded in 2024 with the release of Children of Anguish and Anarchy, but will be revisited with a screen adaptation from Paramount Pictures, which is currently slated for early next year.

In a statement, Adeyemi described The Siren as “the book of my soul. It is the rawest, most heartbreaking, and most amazing thing I’ve ever experienced writing.”

The Siren is scheduled for release on September 29. Jean Feiwel, publishing director of Feiwel and Friends and Henry Holt BFYR, acquired the book with Jen Besser, president and publisher of Macmillan Children’s Publishing Group; Ann Marie Wong and Mark Podesta edited the project. The book will be published simultaneously by Macmillan UK.
