Macmillan Children’s Publishing Group has announced the launch of a new, as-yet-unnamed imprint for nonfiction and illustrated books, while MCPG’s Roaring Brook Press imprint has been shuttered, resulting in layoffs and moves within the children’s division.

Effective immediately, Connie Hsu will serve as VP and publishing director of the new children's imprint. In addition, she will oversee Odd Dot and the Roaring Brook Press backlist. Emily Feinberg, formerly executive editor at Roaring Brook, and Nico Ore-Giron, associate editor at Roaring Brook, will join the new imprint, reporting to Hsu. Nathalie Le Du, publisher of Odd Dot, will also report to her.

Founded in 2002 and sold to Holtzbrinck in 2004, Roaring Brook Press published picture books, fiction, and nonfiction for young readers. Notable titles include the Caldecott-winning picture books A Sick Day for Amos McGee by Philip C. Stead, illustrated by Erin E. Stead; The Man Who Walked Between the Towers by Mordicai Gerstein; and My Friend Rabbit by Eric Rohmann; and winner of the 2014 Michael L. Printz Award, Midwinterblood by Marcus Sedgwick.

FSG Books for Young Readers will continue under editorial director Nancy Conescu’s leadership, with longtime Roaring Brook editors Kate Meltzer and Mekisha Telfer joining the team.

Jean Feiwel, SVP and publishing director of Feiwel and Friends, as well as Alessandra Balzer and Donna Bray, SVPs and co-publishers of Balzer + Bray, will continue to report to Jen Besser, president and publisher of MCPG. Beth Clark, Kristin Dulaney, and Molly Ellis will also report to Besser.

Allison Verost has been named publishing director of Henry Holt Books for Young Readers and Godwin Books, with a larger group of imprints under her oversight; she will continue to report to Besser. As before, Verost will oversee FSG Books for Young Readers, First Second, 23rd Street, Neon Squid, and Priddy. Emilia Sowersby will join Holt BYR, and Ann Marie Wong and Laura Godwin will report to Verost.

In addition to shifts within the editorial group, Bess Braswell, associate publisher at MCPG, will oversee the managing and production editorial team, which continues under David Briggs. Nellie Kurtzman and Audrey Diestelkamp will continue to report to Braswell.

As part of the changes, six individuals have been laid off from MCPG.
