“Unwrap an App for the Holidays” heralds a new promotion from HarperCollins, which features the Fancy Nancy Dress Up app as its lead offering. This is the first interactive, game-oriented app based on the Fancy Nancy books by Jane O’Connor and Robin Preiss Glasser, which have more than 20 million books in print. Created by Bean Creative, the app enables fans to mix and match hundreds of très chic outfits for Nancy and create their own storybooks. The app is available in the App Store for iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch users for an introductory price of $.99. Eleven other apps based on HarperCollins’s children’s book characters or titles are also included in the promotion.

“This is our digital version of a holiday roundup,” says Diane Naughton, v-p of integrated marketing for HarperCollins Children’s Books, of the promotion. “We thought the 12-apps offering fit well with the 12-days seasonal theme. It’s a great time to push out these apps to consumers, who may well be opening new iPads and other devices during the holidays.”

The publisher will be spreading word of the promotion through its social media networks, as well as through a partnership with the parent-oriented Web site BabyCenter.com, which is highlighting the Fancy Nancy Dress Up app on its homepage today and will continue to feature the promotion on its site next week.

In addition to Fancy Nancy Dress Up, the holiday promotion includes two new holiday-themed apps: Biscuit Gives a Gift and The Berenstain Bears Trim the Tree. Among the backlist apps featured are Biscuit’s First Sleepover, Biscuit’s First Trip, 123 Ants Go Marching, Al Yankovic: When I Grow Up, The Berenstain Bears’ Bedtime Battle, Freight Train, ABC Song, Fancy Nancy and the Late, Late, Late Night, and Fancy Nancy and the Sensational Babysitter.

The apps included in the promotion address different topics and themes, and are based on books aimed at children ranging from very young to beginning readers,” Naughton says. “We’re offering something for everyone.”
