This week, girl coders rally in New York City; readers stack the cats at the San Diego Festival of Books; and Rodale celebrates the birth of a children’s imprint.

Speaking in Code

The Girls Who Code publishing program kicked off on August 22 with two New York City events. Reshma Saujani, author, founder, and CEO of Girls Who Code, spoke at a rally for women in the tech fields, held in Union Square. Immediately following was an official book launch for her first two books in the series, Girls Who Code: Learn to Code and Change the World and The Friendship Code, held at Barnes & Noble Union Square. There, Saujani spoke in conversation with Cristina Arreola, books editor at Bustle, about the mission behind the books.

Stack ’Em All!

The inaugural San Diego Festival of Books was held on August 26 at the Venues Liberty Station in Point Loma, San Diego. Author-illustrator Susie Ghahremani (with the black-and-white headband) visited the Children’s Pavilion to celebrate her debut picture book Stack the Cats (Abrams). In addition to reading from the book, she offered cat stack drawing activities and games to book fest attendees.

Rodale Kids Rolls Out

Rodale recently held an ice cream social in its New York and Pennsylvania offices to introduce staff from all divisions to the new Rodale Kids imprint. Pictured is the NYC book publishing team, adult and children’s, along with the first Rodale Kids titles, publishing this fall. Attendees also took home board books from the imprint’s Mrs. Peanuckle series.
