Dreaming Big
Pete Souza, the White House photographer for former President Barack Obama, recently signed copies of Dream Big Dreams (Little, Brown), the young readers’ adaptation of Obama: An Intimate Portrait, for students at the Walker Jones Education Campus school in Washington, D.C. Souza’s visit was held in partnership with the children’s literacy group An Open Book Foundation.
It’s a Small Business World
Laura Murray and Mike Lowery, author and illustrator of the Gingerbread Man picture book series, celebrated Small Business Saturday at the new Bards Alley Bookstore in Vienna, Va. The duo’s The Gingerbread Man Loose at Christmas (Putnam) was popular among bookstore guests, and the Gingerbread Man himself also made an appearance. The next book in the series, The Gingerbread Man and the Leprechaun Loose at School, will be published in January.
Politics, Prose, and Bones
The National Press Club Journalism Institute partnered with Politics & Prose for its 40th annual holiday book fair, held on November 10 at the club’s headquarters in Washington, D.C. The event raised funds for the institute, including a scholarship program focused on diverse journalists. Among the many authors at the event was pediatrician Dr. Howard Bennett, who signed copies of The Fantastic Body: What Makes You Tick & How You Get Sick (Rodale Kids). Dressed in a skeleton costume, Bennett lends an attendee a hand here.
