This week, Jarrett Krosoczka reads with a friend on a cruise; Lisa Papp shares her love of shelter (and library) dogs; Katharine Holabird offers a twinkly wintertime reading; and students prepare a reader’s theater performance based on the Nocturnals series.

Wookiee at Sea

Jarrett Krosoczka took part in Star Wars Day at Sea on February 23, a special event held aboard a Disney Fantasy cruise to the Caribbean. Here, Krosoczka and Chewbacca read a page from the newest title in the Jedi Academy series, Revenge of the Sis, written by Amy Ignatow and illustrated by Krosoczka.

Give Me Shelter

Author-illustrator Lisa Papp recently gave a presentation about her picture books Madeline Finn and the Library Dog and its sequel, Madeline Finn and the Shelter Dog (both Peachtree), at New Haven Elementary School in New Haven, Mo. She spoke to 140 readers in grades one through four about writing and illustrating, and the joys of shelter dogs.

Story Hour

Families braved a snowstorm to meet author Katharine Holabird, who led a storytime event at Bank Street Bookstore on March 2. Holabird read and presented her newest picture book, Twinkle (Little Simon), which is about a fairy-in-training.

A Meeting of Minds

Students from the Transfiguration School in New York City recently read The Moonlight Meeting (Fabled Films) by Tracey Hecht. On March 2, Read Across America Day, the students used the Nocturnals Reader’s Theater program to create and perform a play based on the story. The second and fourth graders worked together as part of a Reading Buddy program.
