This week, the Oakland community welcomes Aida Salazar; McIntyre’s Books holds a book fest; and Wendy S. Swore has a hometown book launch.

Moon Glow

Debut author Aida Salazar celebrated the publication of her novel-in-verse, The Moon Within (Scholastic/Levine), at the Oakland Public Library in Oakland, Calif., where the book takes place. Salazar presented the book, gave a reading, and signed books, to the sounds of guest musicians playing bomba music.

Feeling Festive

McIntyre’s Books in Pittsboro, N.C., held its second annual Whirlikids Book Festival on March 9. After a full day of presentations, panel discussions, activities, and storytimes, guest authors enjoyed an author dinner. Here, Simon & Schuster authors Alicia D. Williams (Genesis Begins Again) and Christian Robinson (Another) chat about the festival.

Meet and Greet

Debut author Wendy S. Swore met fans at her launch party for A Monster Like Me (Shadow Mountain) in Pocatello, Idaho. The event was close to home, as Swore lives nearby on her family farm. Swore signed books, presented to readers, and guests enjoyed pieces of a special cake designed after the book’s cover.
