The Show Must Go On

Gene Luen Yang didn’t let travel delays stop him from closing out his mini-tour for his new series starter, The Books of Clash (First Second), illustrated by Les McClaine. Attendees at An Unlikely Story in Plainville, Mass., enjoyed a virtual conversation between Yang and author/store owner Jeff Kinney.


A Slam Dunk of a Debut

Co-authors Carlyn Greenwald (c.) and Todd Milliner (r.) made an appearance at Vroman’s Bookstore in Pasadena, Calif., on May 30 to discuss their YA collaboration Time Out (S&S), also written by actor Sean Hayes. The pair spoke with author Robbie Couch (l.) and closed the event with a book signing.


If Launch Day Comes

On May 10, Jen St. Jude (l.) celebrated the release of her debut YA novel, If Tomorrow Doesn’t Come (Bloomsbury), with an event at Women & Children First in Chicago. St. Jude appeared in conversation with fellow author Jas Hammonds.


Family in the Front Row

Village Books in Bellingham, Wash., welcomed Kirby Larson on May 11 for her launch for her new chapter book, Shermy & Shake, the Not-So-Nice Neighbor (Candlewick). Larson felt the extra support from her nephews, who showed up for the event.
